Arendse joined Wits' goalkeeping department along with veteran coach Clive Barker in the beginning of 2013, after the club parted ways with Antonio Lopez Habas.

Clever Boys CEO Jose Ferreira has confirmed the departure of the 49-year-old former Bafana Bafana shotstopper, and given a detailed reason as to why they lost his services.

"We are very dissapointed to have lost Andre but we simply could not match the package that was offered to him by SuperSport United," Ferreira tellsĀ KickOff.com.

"As a club we stick to strict budget constraints, and there was only so far we were prepared to go."

Ferreira also confirmed that Arendse has since been replaced by former Moroka Swallows 'keeper and Wits Academy goalkeeper coach Tyron Damons, who has been appointed on a permanent basis.

Matsatsantsa are yet to confirm the appointment of Arendse, while sources reveal that he had reported for training since yesterday. Club CEO Stan Matthews could not be reached for comment.

'Skipper' spent three-and-a-half years at the Milpark-based outfit and, despite having announced his retirement in 2009, returned to help an injury-hit Wits goalkeeping department in 2013, becoming the oldest professional player in PSL history atĀ 45 years, 10 months and four days.
