Sikhakhane was signed by Pirates at the start of last season from Golden Arrows and worked with coach Muhsin Ertugral, who left the Buccaneers in November last year.
Sikhakhane has never really found his feet at Pirates and has struggled to get into the team ahead of the likes of Ntsikelelo Nyauza and Thabo Matlaba, who was the preferred right back when Swedish coach Kjell Jonevret joined the club in the second half of the season. Sikhakhane spent most of his time watching Pirates' games from the stands and he now looks set to make a move back to KZN.
Sikhakhane was part of Owen da Gama's national under-23 team last year, but has not been able to progress since then.
''Thembela Sikhakhane is coming on Monday to start training with AmaZulu,'' a source tells KickOff.com.
The 24-year-old, who featured in 10 league matches for the club, last featured in Pirates' 2-2 draw against Cape Town City in February. That was caretaker coach Augusto Palacios' last game in charge before Jonevret took over.
