Following a disappointing final display of the season in which the Urban Warriors lost their top-eight berth in a 1-0 home defeat to Baroka, Menzo confirmed the exit of a number of players whose contracts with the Cape club are set to expire.
“The players who are at the end of their contracts are Abel [Mabaso], Nathan [Paulse], Cheeseboy [Lebohang Mokoena], [Aubrey] Funga and Lawrence Lartey,” he said. “Those players are at the end of their contracts.”
Menzo did however hint that the club could re-call some of the players, should they not find suitable replacements in the market.
“I also say, at this moment they’re at the end of their contracts, but if I can’t find better players, I have to then make these players better,” he said. “But under normal circumstances, these players will leave the club.”
Defender Mabaso arrived on loan from Sundowns in 2015, managing 25 starts for the club, while Ghanaian centre-back Lartey is set to depart following his two-year stay in Cape Town.
Arriving at the start of this season, winger Mokoena did not have the desired impact, making just two starts, while January arrival Funga from Zambian club Zanaco has failed to fit in, making just one start and four substitute appearances.
Veteran Paulse, 35, rejoined his boyhood club from SuperSport United in 2013, and looks set to depart following 20 goals scored over that period, five of which were netted this campaign.
