Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo has reacted to the Telkom Knockout draw which pitted them against top-flight newcomers Stellenbosch FC.
Orlando Stadium will play host when Pirates square off with Stellenbosch in their last-16 clash next Saturday, with an exact kick-off time still to be confirmed by the PSL.
However, it is a team they have yet to face and, in fact, have a league date with away from home just a week later, thus leaving Mlambo somewhat "amused".
‘Ten-ten’, meanwhile, is aware that their form this season – two wins in 11 matches across all competitions – has not been great and therefore concedes that they have nothing to lose in going all out in trying to overcome the Premiership newbies.
“I was a bit amused because we already have to play Stellenbosch when we reopen the premier league, so I was quite shocked to say, ‘Eish, we have to meet up with them twice in two weeks,’ so it’s not going to be easy to play the same opponent,” said Mlambo at the draw on Wednesday.
“We come into this cup and we have nothing to lose. We are wounded from last season’s results, so we definitely have to give everything we have so that we turn the situation around.”
Stellies themselves have won just one of their eight matches this season as they occupy 14th position, while The Buccaneers sit on the edge of the top half of the log standings.
