Veteran defender Vuyo Mere has revealed the player he believes has all the ingredients to drive the Kaizer Chiefs midfield next season, and possibly wear the number 10 jersey in future.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars right-back believes attacking midfielder Given Thibedi has all the qualities to break into Ernst Middendorp's senior team.
Thibedi is currently on loan at GladAfrica Championship promotion contenders Swallows FC until the end of the season, along with Itumeleng Shopane and Ayanda Rorwana.
Mere, who is the senior statesman at Swallows next to Lebohang Mokoena, has been watching the 22-year-old performing on the pitch every week at the Dube Birds.
"The boy is a workaholic, comfortable on the ball and level-headed," Mere reveals to KickOff.com.
"The boy can play in the PSL tomorrow because he has what it takes. He is just way ahead of his peers when it comes to football brains.
"He has this arrogance when he is on the field that makes him fear nobody and I like that a lot about him."
Thibedi is already touted as a good replacement for George Maluleka at Chiefs next season, with 'Mido' on his way to join Mamelodi Sundowns on a free transfer.
"As for replacing George I think it's unfair on the little man to be put under that pressure," Mere adds.
"He can do well at Chiefs but he needs to be introduced rightfully and nursed [nurtured] because he is a young fellow and he is still learning. But for me I will put him in my team any day."
