Orlando Pirates legend Edward 'Magents' Motale backs The Buccaneers' move for Bafana Bafana captain Thulani Hlatshwayo.
This website broke the news last week that Pirates have won the race to sign the centre-back from Bidvest Wits.
Former skipper Motale says Hlatshwayo's arrival should not be viewed as a replacement for current captain Happy Jele, but a strengthening of the club's defence.
"I'm not sure they've signed him to take over from Happy Jele but Pirates has been longing for him," Motale tells KickOff.com.
"So I think he's a good catch for Orlando Pirates because they've been always looking to sign him. I think he's been always dreaming of playing for Pirates and this came at the right time."
Motale insist there is still a future for Jele at Pirates.
"Jele's got a one-year season, they gave him one season extra. Jele is the captain of Pirates. So Hlatshwayo must fight for the belt if he still wants to be captain. Happy is the captain of Orlando Pirates," he explains.
"If I were the coach I would pair them because they are both leaders. So you can't put a leader on the bench. We need leaders on the field of play, we don't need people who add numbers.
"I'm very happy. In fact, I always wanted him at Pirates. What's left now is to get a goalkeeper, that's what we are missing."
