KickOff.com can confirm that Thembinkosi Lorch has been released on bail after he was arrested in Midrand.
This website broke the news this morning of the Orlando Pirates midfielder's arrest in the early hours of Monday.
The 27-year-old has now appeared in court on charges of assault with the intent to cause bodily harm.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, the footballer will return to court next month after he was released on R2 000 bail.
"Yes [it is Thembinkosi Lorch]," Mjonondwane confirms to KickOff.com.
"He has been released on bail. He will appear in court again on the 8th of October."
The Buccaneers recently suspended Lorch after he was found guilty of breaking club protocol but the player returned to the squad before the end of the season.
Contacted for comment, Pirates indicated that the club would release a statement on the matter in due course.
Lorch himself ended the call abruptly when contacted regarding his arrest and would not pick up our calls thereafter.
