Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane has lauded coach Pitso Mosimane for the integral role he played in both the club's and his personal success.

Zwane has enjoyed a stunning rise with Sundowns over his nine-year stay with the club, becoming one of the cornerstones to the club's success in recent times under Mosimane.

However, after nearly eight years together, 'Mshishi' has had to now bid farewell to 'Jingles', who has taken up a new challenge with Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who was this week crowned SAFJA Men's Footballer of the Season, reserved special praise for the five-time league-winning tactician and the significant role he played in his career as well as the club's history.

"He has played a big role in the team, even to the players, because he [would] always motivate guys and always want guys who work hard," Zwane told members of the SA Football Journalists' Association on Tuesday.

"He would give you the mentality that he has, which is of always [being] on your toes, don't take things for granted – you play one game, you forget about it and focus on the next.

"He has done well for himself and the team, and for the country. And he has played a big role towards myself, to be honest, because he was always on top of me.

"'Mshishi, you need to create more; Mshishi, you need to score more; Mshishi, you need to make the team play; you need to take care of yourself so that you can avoid injuries...' He was always on top of me, and I really appreciate working with him."
