Inside Downs: Zwane's guard of honour


Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Themba Zwane received a guard of honour at Chloorkop after a clean sweep at the 2019/20 PSL Awards.

Zwane, 31, secured every title in the categories he was nominated for at the prestigious event which included the Midfielder of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Footballer of the Season.

Having beaten teammates Gaston Sirino and Peter Shalulile as well as Kaizer Chiefs star Samir Nurkovic to the most coveted honour, the South Africa international was offered a hero's welcome at training on Friday.

Just one day before their highly-anticipated season-opener against Chiefs at FNB Stadium tomorrow, Zwane will arrive with a renewed sense of confidence with the latest honours under his name.

With R500 000 in cash earned as prize money along with the three trophies, the Bafana Bafana star will now be aiming to lead Masandawana to further titles during a new era under joint head coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.

Shalulile, Sirino, Hlompho Kekana and Keletso Makgalwa were also honoured this morning after winning awards in their respective categories.
