Sundowns moved just four points behind Kaizer Chiefs, who looked poised to run away with the title just one month prior.
And on the other end of the table, only eight points separated last-placed Black Leopards and ninth-placed Bloemfontein Celtic.
As a result, there were several standout players in the league, with new signings making massive impacts at their respective clubs.
From Gabadinho Mhango's 14 goals reviving Orlando Pirates back into a shot for a top-three finish to Thamsanqa Gabuza's instant impact since leaving the Buccaneers for SuperSport United.
The much-maligned striker has scored six goals and registered four assists in 30 games in all competitions and seemingly sparked life into Bradley Grobler as his strike partner registered career-best scoring figures.
But his three goals and two assists during Matsantsantsa's MTN8 triumph was the biggest factor in his inclusion amongst the best additions.
The likes of Gladwin Shitolo and Thabo Matlaba were also players who departed Pirates, the former on loan, but the defensive duo earned their way back into the national team squad with inspiring displays.
Both earn their place in the list that also features Kaizer Chiefs duo Samir Nurkovic and Kearyn Baccus, as well as reported Mamelodi Sundowns target Daylon Claasen.
All players selected have been ranked for their influence and amount of games played since their arrivals at their new teams from the start of the 2019/20 season.
