Rakhale: I know Chiefs can't sign me

Former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United midfielder Thabo Rakhale has opened up about reports linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Rakhale has departed Chippa this week following the expiry of his contract with the club on Tuesday, and is now available on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old winger had previously been linked with Chiefs, and rumours have since resurfaced that the Soweto giants remain keen on bringing him to Naturena.

However, there is now a FIFA transfer ban hanging over Amakhosi, making it difficult for a move to materialise until the club is successful in their appeal lodged before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will hear the matter on September 9.

For now though, 'Jomo' has reduced the speculation to just rumours as he is well clued up on the situation The Glamour Boys are currently facing.

"Honestly speaking, I know players are always saying it's just rumours, but this is true, it was just a rumour. I don't know anything about that," Rakhale tells KickOff.com.

"Maybe my agent knows something that I don't, or maybe there's someone who knows but I don't know. No one has started talking to me.

"It's actually surprised me because I know that they can't sign players now, yet there's people saying they are interested in me, which doesn't make sense."

Asked whether his next club will be based in Gauteng, closer to his family, the former Sivutsa Stars attacker refused to rule anything out.

"I don't know. We'll see after all the games are finished [this season], then that's when we'll start the engine again and see what's going to happen," he adds.

"If there's interest, you never know what's going to happen. I'm just going to see, when the time arrives, where things will take me, because I've been all over – from Mafikeng, Gauteng, Nelspruit, Polokwane and now in Eastern Cape, so right now I don't know what the future holds for me."
