Former Orlando Pirates star Thabo 'Festival' Matlaba reveals there is a big secret he shares with respected chairman Irvin Khoza.
While still at Pirates in 2018 Matlaba, who was no longer receiving any game-time, refused to accept a loan move to Chippa United.
This was after the Port Elizabeth side had already announced he would be joining them for a pre-season camp in Johannesburg.
The Bafana Bafana defender says the reason no one knows why the loan to Chippa couldn't happen is because he made a promise to the Pirates chairman that he would never tell.
"You see, the issue of Chippa, I promised the chairman that I'm not going to talk about it," Matlaba tells KickOff.com.
"So he asked me not to talk about it, err... I'm not going to talk about the Chippa issue because it's too emotional.
"The Chippa loan deal and everything, so I promised the chairman not to talk about it so I never spoke about it, and I will talk about it until [when] I get to a certain level to talk about it.
"But right now, I don't think it's the right time to talk about what happened, did I refuse or something... or what happened, so people want to know what happened. So no one knows what happened exactly.
"I didn't refuse [to join Chippa] but something happened, but I don't want to talk about it because me and the chairman we spoke about it that we are not going to share with anyone what happened.
"That's why I stayed at Pirates... but it's an issue for another day. I don't want to lie, I don't want to talk about it."
Currently Matlaba is playing for Black Leopards where he is enjoying his football again and even earned himself a national team recall before the lockdown.
