Former Free State Stars midfielder Tshegofatsho Mashego has made his pick for the 2020/21 Kick Off Footballer of the Season, while giving a notable mention to an AmaZulu star.
The time has come for the best performer in the 2020/21 season to be crowned, and KickOff readers have been called to decide there upon.
Amongst the eight finalists, Peter Shalulile has received a considerable amount of backing, as has his teammate Themba Zwane, who were both nominated for the award last season.
Shalulile has been in fine form this season, creating eight and scoring 16 goals both domestically and in the CAF Champions League, while Zwane has contributed five assists and 12 goals for The Brazilians.
It is no surprise then that Mashego is torn between the two, while he also believes AmaZulu midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula deserves special mention for his wonderful performances put out for Usuthu this season.
“I will go for ‘Mshishi’ Zwane, Shalulile and Makhaula at AmaZulu. Shalulile has been creating and scoring goals for Sundowns this season,” he tells KickOff.com.
“Shalulile and Mshishi make Sundowns tick, and you could see the absence of Shalulile against Chiefs on Sunday. Ja, I will go for Peter Shalulile for the big award.
“Please also allow me to mention Makhaula at AmaZulu. He has been brilliant this season. He has brought stability in that AmaZulu midfield. He protects the centre-backs at and that's why they have kept many clean sheets this season.”
Orlando Pirates duo Fortune Makaringe and last year’s KO Footballer of the Season winner Deon Hotto, as well as Bradley Grobler, Ruzaigh Gamildien, Augustine Mulenga and Mduduzi Mdantsane are the rest of the nominees.
