Swallows wanted Gordon Igesund

Premiership

KickOff.com has learnt that Swallows FC wanted to hire former coach Gordon Igesund before opting for the promotion-winning Brandon Truter.

The former Richards Bay coach made history when he helped Swallows gain automatic promotion to the PSL for next season against the odds.

Truter took over the coaching reins from Zeca Marques earlier this season before leading The Dube Birds to the GladAfrica Championship title.

Swallows have indicated they intend to keep Truter for next season and he will be allowed to keep the rest of his technical team. They are expected to keep Dobsonville Stadium as their home venue.

According to a source close to the club, Igesund was earmarked for the position before Truter became available.

"The team had earmarked Gordon Igesund as the head coach but then Truter became available," the source tells KickOff.com.

"It turned out to be a great choice for Swallows as Truter led Swallows back to the PSL."
