Swallows to meet with big player

Premiership

Swallows FC are set to make a key decision on the future of one of their high-profile players ahead of their second season the country's top flight.

The Dube Birds are expected to meet with former Orlando Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba in a bid to keep him on the club's books beyond this past season.

Matlaba join Swallows in October last year after parting ways with Black Leopards due to his desire to return to Johannesburg.

The 33-year-old went on to make 21 appearances for the Soweto-based club in all competitions and provided one assist.

His initial contract is set to lapse in just over a week's time and is eligible to leave on a free transfer, but 'Festival' has assured he will give Swallows first option before deciding his future.

Asked by this website for an update on negotiations between himself and the club for a new deal, Matlaba, who insists he was very satisfied with the way he did in 2020/21, replied: "I'm meeting Swallows next week Tuesday to discuss my future with them, then I will update from there."
