Red-hot Gamildien takes aim at Downs

Premiership

Red-hot DStv Premiership player of the moment Ruzaigh Gamildien expects Mamelodi Sundowns to prove more of a challenge than Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in Saturday's league encounter.

Swallows FC will battle it out with the defending champions at Lucas Moripe Stadium (15h00) in a six-pointer as whoever wins will open up some breathing space from the other.

Both clubs remain unbeaten on 26 points at the top of the table after 12 matches, with the Dude Birds proving themselves as surprise title contenders this season.

"Ja obviously it's going to be a very difficult match, and our backs are against the wall because no one is really giving us a chance, but like they say the underdog is always dangerous," the current PSL Player of the Month tells KickOff.com.

"Obviously we can expect a good game, both teams are going to come out firing with a good brand of football."

Swallows have already beaten glamour club Chiefs 1-0 and drew with Pirates 1-1 in their first two big tests in the DStv Premiership.

The 31-year-old former Bloemfontein Celtic man was asked if he thought The Brazilians would provide more of a challenge than the two Soweto giants.

"Ja definitely, obviously, because they are the champions and they are out to win the league. They've been playing in Africa so they have all the experience, and obviously at Sundowns they are the reigning champions," he says.

"It's going to be a very difficult match, and they have a bigger squad on paper than us so it's going to be tough. But I'm sure we're going to try and do our best to cause another upset."

Gamildien, who has been instrumental at Swallows this season having scored nine goals in 12 games already, explains what has been working for him.

"Ja obviously self-motivation and being part of a good squad and good environment, and obviously the support structure from my home town [Cape Town], from my family and my friends.

"We would like to push as high as possible on the table. We want to do well and make sure we are in the top eight next season."
