SuperSport United make Benni McCarthy contact

SuperSport United have made contact with Benni McCarthy in the hopes of sensationally appointing him as the club's new head coach.

United dramatically sacked head coach Kaitano Tembo on Tuesday after a disappointing run of results, including crashing out of the Nedbank Cup.

McCarthy's services are believed to be high in demand since parting ways with AmaZulu and are now believed to be in line to replace Tembo.

"There have been initial contact but at the moment nothing has been finalised," a source reveals to KickOff.

"The club initially wanted to sign Benni McCarthy before he was appointed at AmaZulu.

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt and former Orlando Pirates coach Muhsin Ertugral have both also been linked to the vacant role at SuperSport.

For Hunt, it would be a return to the team where he set a record in clinching three consecutive league titles with United.

Matsatsantsa have since named former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Andre Arendse as interim coach for the remainder of the season.
