Johnson met with United's management yesterday where he agreed to leave the team.
Igesund, whose contract with Bafana expires on Sunday, could be roped in by next week, according to a source close to Matsatsantsa.
"The club had meeting with the technical team yesterday," the source tells KickOff.com.
"They should be finalising the issue of the coach before next week.
"The club is speaking to both Serame Letsoaka (Igesund's assistant at Bafana) and Gordon Igesund.
"Gordon's contract with Safa expires on Sunday and the club could finalise the deal on Monday," adds the source.
This website revealed on Wednesday that SuperSport assistant coach Kaitano Tembo was expected to take over the reins in a caretaker capacity after Johnson said goodbye to his players following the 2-1 loss to Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Tembo and Kwanele Kopo supervised the team's training season yesterday in Johnson's absence ahead of this weekend's clash with log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.
