No bone for stranded Lebese

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder George Lebese appears set to remain in limbo at Chloorkop as interest in his services are suppressed.

Lebese joined Sundowns in a high-profile transfer from Kaizer Chiefs as he looked to move back ‘home’ to Mamelodi two seasons ago.

However, things have not quite worked out for the once raved-about 30-year-old, who has amassed just five senior international appearances with Bafana Bafana.

After a turbulent first season at the Tshwane giants, ‘Geeza’ was afforded an opportunity to resurrect himself on a six-moth loan at SuperSport United last season.

That didn’t go quite as he would have liked either as he managed just four starts and three sub appearances under Kaitano Tembo.

With the PSL transfer window deadline fast approaching, Lebese’s future remains up in the air with Matsatsantsa CEO Stan Matthews confirming they have no intention of bringing him back this season.

“Yeah, that was completely off from last season. Look, we gave him a chance but [he contributed] no goals and no assists,” Matthews tells

“Unfortunately, you know, [it didn’t work out]. Also, the [financial] numbers that he’s on at Sundowns make it very hard to be in it and to make it sustainable.”
