Phala was harshly dismissed after tangling with Khama Billiat in the 57th minute of the Absa Premiership tie at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
"I am disappointed with the red card. Thuso ran about 25 metres with the guy on his back and when he tried to shake him off to get away from him, the referee sent him off," said Igesund.
"I don't want to complain about this situation but I was hoping they can have a look at it and he [Gomes] says he made a mistake ... and let's see if the red card is overturned."
Meanwhile, the ex-Bafana Bafana boss believes his side showed signs of fatigue after playing 120 minutes of football in their Telkom Knockout triumph at Platinum Stars' expense on the weekend.
"I think my players were little bit flat," he said.
"It was difficult and it's not an excuse but a fact. You saw yourself the first 30 minutes we were bubbling, after that a couple of players were flat.
"However, at the end of the day we lost 3-1 and well done to Sundowns. We will pick ourselves up."
