Sundowns star's elite mentality revealed

The national team coach of the PSL’s leading goal scorer Peter Shalulile has revealed his shock about the Mamelodi Sundowns star forward.

Shalulile is cruising with 13 goals from 19 games in the league and with a total of 16 in all competitions after also reaching double figures the last term raising his profile to be among the best not just in the PSL but on the continent.

Bobby Samaria, the Namibia national team coach, is astonished by what he has seen of the man who now also wears the armband for him.

"Working with Peter is absolutely a joy as this boy always gives 100% in every training session. In fact, when I started with the national team, I was pleasantly surprised that he would run and pick up the markers after training. I mean such is his energy and attitude," Samaria tells KickOff.

"It is funny how I came to know him, it was during my time as African Stars FC head coach. I watched his team (Tura Magic) play and was impressed by a player wearing jersey number three. I then bumped into the manager of Tura Magic and asked him who the player wearing number three was.

"I was shell shocked to hear that it was Shalulile because all along I thought he was a player from Ghana since Tura Magic has a couple of players from Ghana. After meeting at the national team I shared the story with him and guess, he narrated another story. He once came to African Stars training during pre-season as a young boy and he played a very good headed pass to our former national captain (Ronald) Stiga Ketjijere and I apparently told him that we would offer him a 10-year contract," says Samaria.

"I am filled with joy and pride that a boy from my country is fighting toe to toe in a league which is regarded as one of the best in Africa. He has grown in leads and bounds so much so that I didn’t hesitate to appoint him as captain in the absence of our regular captain Petrus Shitembi. Safe to say he has equally grown in that role. He leads by example," he adds.
