The 33-year-old Kekana is a candidate, alongside Tau (23) and Ndlovu (21), to win the biggest individual award in local football at the PSL Awards at the Sandton Convention Centre on Tuesday.
Tau finished the season as joint-top scorer with Polokwane City’s Rodney Ramagalela on 11 goals and scored two more in cup competitions. To go with the 13 goals, Tau ended the campaign with 17 assists in all competitions.
Ndlovu, meanwhile, has been Maritzburg’s best player this season, becoming the first player in the club’s history to win the Absa Premiership Player of the Month award in January. Ndlovu played at left-back and in central midfield, scoring five goals in all competitions. He finished the campaign with six assists in 34 matches.
Kekana, who is also in the running for the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season accolade alongside Ndlovu and Orlando Pirates' Musa Nyatama, says he is happy to be nominated with young players.
“For the other two guys that have have been nominated I wish them well. They stand a good chance of winning the award and I am sure why the panel knows why they nominated them,” the former SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic man tells KickOff.com.
“They deserve to be nominated. I am happy that I am competing with young players.”
