Baxter hails Chiefs' local boy Blom

Head coach Stuart Baxter has hailed the performance of academy graduate Njabulo Blom after his impressive display in a Soweto derby victory over Orlando Pirates.

The defender was named as the Man of the Match after the final whistle for his impressive performance as right-back in a 2-1 win over Pirates.

The 21-year-old has been a permanent fixture down the right flank for Baxter who has been rewarded now with impressive performances.

Those displays have also been rewarded with a Bafana Bafana call-up by Belgian coach Hugo Broos.

Speaking after the final whistle, Baxter gave an insight into the talents of the Kaizer Chiefs academy's seemingly latest jewel.

"I think it's massive as it's not just about him having a good game but it's about the inspiration that he gives to others who have been where he's been," Baxter said.

"He comes back after a poorish first-half, and he's excellent in the second half.

"I think there's one player, and this is no disrespect to any of the other players, if there's one player who has a big game in him then it's Blom.

"Where he could step up and he has got the ingredients to step up and play at a very high level then I think that's Njabulo Blom.

"Yeah, I think the national team are going to get a lot of good service from him as we move down the years."
