Baxter: All round good day for Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter was happy that his side came away with three points after despite the poor state of the pitch.

Baxter criticised the drainage at Dobsonville Stadium which was exacerbated by the inclement weather in the first half, but the Amakhosi mentor was really happy with how his side dealt with it.

"First half it was really, really difficult to play football. The pitch was boggy. It looks very nice but it was very boggy. The rain and wind especially in the first half an hour was very, very troublesome," Baxter told SuperSport TV.

"I thought our shape and balance was quite good and then our front players with their movement and their liveliness they produced three moments of excellence and that was enough to win the game. And then we were managing the game in the second half because with the pitch you just wanted to get away with three points."

The AmaKhosi tactician then explained his reasons for playing with three centre-backs.

"We tried to press high. We played with three centre-backs because that suited the material that we had today. But also we played with three centre-backs so we could press them in that way to stop their inverted full-backs from getting on the ball and overloading the midfield. I think they went long more than they wanted to and it worked out okay," he added.

Meanwhile, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Siyabonga Ngezana made a long-awaited return to competitive action after coming off the bench and the Amakhosi mentor was happy that he could blood them in.

"We've got a squad. And we need to share the load. I thought Kearyn Baccus was excellent. Anthony worked hard but I think he's had better days. He's a great character. And Ntiya was 'Little Dynamite Jim' when he came on wasn't he. And Happy got some minutes as well and as you said Bibo got some minutes as well. All round a good day. And we got Siya back on the football field for the first time in a long time.

"We look forward to all the games. And then after the game you can ask me if I enjoyed it," concluded Baxter.
