Steve Komphela has highlighted the qualities of in-form Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Rivaldo Coetzee after his latest Bafana Bafana snub by Belgian coach Hugo Broos.

Broos on Tuesday named a preliminary 34-man squad for a 2022 World Cup qualifier double-header against Ethiopia to take place in October.

Coetzee has so far won an incredible three Man of the Match awards in four matches played as the Brazilians top the league standings.

Reacting to the latest squad announcement, Komphela tweeted to his more than 155 000 followers highlighting the qualities of Coetzee.

Responding to a tweet questioning the 24-year-old's Bafana exclusion, Komphela hailed the newly-converted midfielder as one of the best at identifying space.

"Like [an] elephant in the bush, destructive but silent. CM's are not seen in a match until you watch/observe them. He's a marvel to watch. Very few players on the park, have so many sensors like he’s got. He’s one of the best scanners of playing space. He scans as if he’s breathing.

Komphela added that he was not intentionally questioning Broos' selections but was merely highlighting Coetzee's qualities, which may be overlooked.

Meanwhile, Co-coach Rulani Mokwena also questioned the exclusion of defender Lyle Lakay and the tactics of Broos to employ a right-footed defender at left-back.

"I watch Bafana Bafana, and watched Bafana against Ghana," Mokwena said.

"I watched the entire Cosafa tournament, and you want to ask me why I think Lyle Lakay is not in the Bafana team, I think because when I watch Bafana I see Evidence Makgopa, I see Bongokuhle Hlongwane upfront, and then I see a right-footed left-back, so [shrugs]."
