Skelem agrees to join new club

Stellenbosch FC winger Leletu Skelem looks poised to join Martizburg United ahead of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

The highly-rated winger departed Cape Town on Sunday after agreeing on a deal in principle over an expected three-year contract with the KZN-based outfit as part of a transfer that will see Judas Moseamedi heading the other direction.

KickOff understands Chippa United were the other interested club for the 23-year-old's services who has enhanced his reputation in the South African top-flight since winning promotion with Stellies back in 2019.

However, it is believed the Cape Winelands outfit are now willing to part company with the academy graduate who has seen limited action with just three league starts in the final 14 games last season.

Skelem scored five goals and registered as many assists for Steve Barker's side in 52 top-flight games in all competitions since winning the 2018/19 GladAfrica Championship.

The speedy winger had also attracted the attention of Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates earlier this year in March.

The player had commented in a previous report on being linked to Chiefs, a team he grew up supporting.

"If I happen to join Kaizer Chiefs I will have to do extra more to help bring back the glory days of winning trophies," Skelem said.

"I don't have any grudge against them, it's just that I grew up supporting Kaizer Chiefs, up until at a stage where I reached PSL."
