Setback for Chiefs in transfer pursuit

Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a setback in their transfer plans for next season as one of their targets looks set to extend his current contract.

Stellenbosch FC will be taking up the option on Leletu Skelem's contract amid all the reported interest headlined by the Glamour Boys.

Skelem's contract runs at the end of next month but Setliies have an option to extend it for another season, which has gathered the club will be taking up.

The club has also already offered the 23-year-old a new and improved contract, but he has decided not to sign yet.

Skelem has been a subject of interest this year and this appears to have affected his performances having failed to put in a full shift of 90 minutes in the last 15 games.

He has one goal this season, which is a drop from the four that he scored last season when he played with more bite that he has shown for most of this term.

Chiefs have regularly been mentioned as a possible destination as they are expected to have a squad overhaul with their transfer ban coming up.

The decision by Stellenbosch to take the option will mean any prospective bidders for his services will have to go through the club.

Stellenbosch are yet to be approached by any club to date in relation to Skelem.

For now, the Cape Winelands side has made staying up their priority having sunk so bad that they are now in the relegation playoffs mud. They have not won in their last nine games, picking up a mere five points from a possible 27.
