Orlando Pirates' former captain Siyabonga Sangweni believes the team is performing better now that Happy Jele is playing regularly again.
The 34-year-old Middelburg-born defender, whose contract with the Buccaneers was surprisingly only renewed by a season, has recently been starting consistently again.
At the start of the 2020/21 season Jele was on the bench most of the time but since mid-January he has been back in the thick of things.
"I'm happy they brought back Happy, he does a very big job there [in the defence]," Sangweni tells KickOff.com.
"Him being brought back shows he adds huge value at the back. As I've been complaining since the beginning, you can't put people who are not even playing in that position in his place. Playing centre-back position is not easy, so put someone who understands it.
"Happy has been in this game for too long, he is able to command and do whatever is required of him. As humans we all make mistakes, but you can't just throw him out like that.
"Since his return there's been a huge difference. Yes, people will continue talking because there are many coaches out there and we don't see the same way, but his return has brought a big difference at the back."
