Who's the next PSL Baller of the Season?

Previous winner Siyabonga Nomvethe believes the goalscorers will have an advantage when it comes to selecting the 2019/20 PSL Footballer of the Season.

The PSL Footballer of the Season is annually awarded to the most outstanding player of the season across the domestic league and all three major cup competitions.

Nomvethe, himself a winner of the prestigious accolade in 2012, has outlined what the award means and what is needed to achieve it.

"Winning that award encouraged me a lot because my dream as a footballer was to win something," the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana striker tells KickOff.com.

"Something to make me happy, something to prove to my children that I worked hard in the league. It makes you work even harder this award.

"You need to be a hard worker to win this award, work hard in the gym, work hard in the team... you must also do your own extra training sessions to show you are a serious player that wants to have a great future."

'Bhele' admits that being a forward gives you an edge over other players when it comes to such accolades.

"Being a striker gives you an advantage because most times strikers are not easy to find. You are easily identified when you score," he says.

"The award makes it easy for you to get an opportunity in the national team, and it's easier for you to move to Europe."

Nomvethe says it is not easy to tell who is going to walk away with the 2019/20 award.

"It will became much clearer in the last four matches. There are a lot of quality players who deserve it... even at Pirates there are players who deserve to be given a chance," he reckons.

"The competition is high you see. There are defenders that were doing well before this problem of Covid-19."
