Walters extends City stay

The 35-year-old’s contract with the Citizens was set to come to an end on the 30th of June 2017.

“I’ve signed [a new contract] today,” the former Mpumalanga Black Aces goalkeeper tells

“I’m happy with the club rewarding me with another one year after a successful season.

“The boss [John Comitis] obviously wants to try and secure most of the players that he had last season – and just add one or two for the season ahead."

The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper also reveals that he has sent his former coach Eric Tinkler a message of good luck after seeing that he will no longer be with the club, having signed with SuperSport United.

“I’ve sent him [Eric Tinkler] a message this morning after seeing the news on social media – and also the club Facebook page post. I’ve wished him well," adds Walters.

“At the end of the day, clubs are businesses, and players and coaches and are also businesses. And you as a player if you are playing for a smaller club you wanna do well so you can be spotted by bigger clubs – same as coaches.

“So, at the end of the day he as well wants to improve as a coach and maybe he feels this move [to SuperSport United] now is a reward of his hard work from last season – and maybe he was looking for a different challenge I suppose. So I wish him all the best,” concluded Walters.
