Ex-Bafana coach takes amateur job

A former Bafana Bafana head coach is now coaching in the ABC Motsepe League.

Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba has been appointed as coach of third-tier club Blue Lions FC, who campaign in the Gauteng League.

Mashaba is well known for his good record in developing players and his last job was with relegated Witbank Spurs in the National First Division (now GladAfrica Championship) last season.

The 69-year-old has also coached the Eswatini national team.

In 2015 he led South Africa to the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea where Bafana failed to get out of their group.

Blue Lions are new in the Motsepe League as they were only promoted this season after winning the Gauteng regional playoffs.

According to media reports Mashaba not been given any mandate by the Lions management as their focus is only on developing players.

Despite a number of phone calls, Mashaba could not be reached for comment.
