Five suspects linked with the murder of former Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa have been arrested, South African Minister of Police Bheki Cele has confirmed.
On the day that marks six years since Meyiwa's shocking murder at the home of then-girlfriend, singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, a major breakthrough in the investigation has been made.
Cele announced in an official press conference that SAPS has a 'watertight' case and evidence against the five unnamed suspects, who were detained between 08h00 and 10h00 today.
It has also been confirmed that the murder weapon has been retrieved, with one of the suspects strongly linked to the said firearm, marking the biggest breakthrough since Meyiwa's untimely passing in 2014.
"After gathering sufficient intelligence, information and evidence, I'm happy to announce that there has been a breakthrough in the Senzo Meyiwa case," Cele said.
Three of the suspects arrested were not in the house in Vosloroos at the time of the shooting, while more arrests are set to take place, SAPS promised, in a story that will "grow bigger" in due course.
