Lebese attracts more PSL interest

KickOff.com understands PSL club Sekhukhune United are looking to compete for the signature of former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star George Lebese.

Sekhukhune have placed Lebese's name on top of their shopping list in anticipation of their promotion to the DStv Premiership next season.

The Limpopo outfit recently won their court battle over the disputed automatic promotion spot in the GladAfrica Championship, which is also being contested by Royal AM.

The 32-year-old left-winger has been struggling to claim his clearance from American club Colorado Springs Switcbacks FC, whom he parted ways with last year.

Lebse is also on the wanted list of 2021 Nedbank Cup champions Tshakuma Tsha Madzhivhandila FC, with whom he had initially signed a short-term deal with last season.

However, his move was canned after the club, which has since been renamed Marumo Gallants FC, failed to obtain the players clearance to register him to play.

According to a well-placed source at Sekhukhune, they are now favourites to land Lebese's signature, with the club's training base being in Gauteng working in their favour.

Contacted to comment on being linked to Sekhukhune, Lebese insisted he has not yet been contacted.

"I have not spoken to anyone as yet. They [Switchbacks] are still saying I should be able to get them [clearance papers] but it's easier if a team is doing it. So, if I'm contracted to any team, then I will easily get the papers."

Sekhukhune FC chairman Simon Malatji could not be reached for comment.
