Sekhukhune assessing ex-Downs defender

Premiership

A former Mamelodi Sundowns full-back is being assessed by DStv Premiership newcomers Sekhukhune United.

This publication has learnt that Siyabonga Zulu is currently training with Sekhukhune as he looks to make a return to the big league.

Zulu spent last season playing amateur football at Gomora United in the ABC Motsepe League.

He was one of the club's high-profile signings who joined the club in February, alongside the likes of former Black Leopards striker Roggert Nyundu.

"At the moment he is still just training at Sekhukhune. They took him to camp. He is training with them but it looks like he is signing," a source close to the player tells KickOff.com.

“He didn't deserve to play in the ABC. He really deserves to be playing in the PSL."

Despite his talent, Zulu has been struggling to get a topflight club since leaving Sundowns in 2019.

The 27- year-old enjoyed his best football at Platinum Stars between 2015 and December 2017, prior to his move to Chloorkop in 2018.

He last played in the Premiership in 2019 when he made only three appearances for Black Leopards.

Babina Noko have already unveiled 12 new signings, including the likes of Thabo Rakhale, Tshediso Patjie, Ryan De Jongh, Talent Chawapiwa, Edwin Gyimah, Charlton Mashumba and Pogiso Mahlangu.
