Kaizer Chiefs forward Samir Nurkovic has opened up about his experiences since arriving at the club, discussing the team environment as well as the club’s supporters.
It has been just over two months since Nurkovic arrived as an unknown figure from Slovakia’s second division, but his short stay has already left quite an impression on pundits and supporters alike.
The burly Serbian may have only scored one goal and assisted another in his first four games, but the work rate and potential he has shown is what many have been praising.
He is also still settling into his new environment, getting acquainted with his teammates and the style of football in South Africa, but this has not stopped him from coming out of his shell.
“I’m enjoying playing with them and, as everyone knows, we’ve played just four games together and it’s getting better and better,” said Nurkovic.
“We’re used to each other already. Of course, it’s a new environment for me, and I’m coming from another continent, which is hard in the beginning.
“But from game to game, it’s getting better. I’m always an optimist, and I always expect the best thing.”
Regarding the Amakhosi faithful, Nurkovic has been left thoroughly impressed by the reception from the stands, with the turnout at some of the games also something he’s relishing.
“This is the first time I’ve played in front of these wonderful fans and supporters – we have the best supporters in Africa,” he added.
“I’m enjoying every game, and when it’s a question of goals – they will come. I’m just giving my best every game, and I’m doing whatever the coach is asking from me.
“As long as I’m creating the chances for my teammates, and I’m there [on the pitch] playing well, then it’s good.”
