Nurkovic inches closer to Chiefs return

Kaizer Chiefs star Samir Nurkovic appears to be inching closer to a return ahead of the second half of the DStv Premiership campaign.

Following an Africa Cup of Nations-enforced January break, Chiefs are set to return to action on 12 February when they will meet TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32, before traveling to Cape Town City for a league clash three days later.

Ahead of those highly-anticipated encounters, Stuart Baxter's charges have been hard at training and the Amakhosi faithful will have been buoyed to see star striker Samir Nurkovic among the players being put through his paces.

The Serbian hit-man has been on Chiefs' casualty list since September when he was forced to undergo knee surgery and has missed each of the club's previous 16 matches across all competitions.

Siyabonga Ngezana and Leonardo Castro, who bounced back from their respective injuries towards the end of last year, were also among the present contingent, but there was no sign of Sifiso Hlanti, who could miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in November.

Chiefs currently occupy fourth place in the DStv Premiership standings with 28 points from 16 matches, and are 16 points behind league leaders and reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, albeit with three games in hand.
