Ndlanya: Nurkovic brings back the mojo

Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs legend Pollen Ndlanya says the return of Samir Nurkovic has brought back the belief and confidence among his teammates.

The unselfish 'Kokota' has been instrumental and has had a hand in almost every goal the club has scored recently, assisting and creating space for youngsters like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Happy Mashiane.

Nurkovic's return has seen the Glamour Boys move from position 14 on the log to seventh, and since his return from injury Amakhosi have not lost a match in the PSL.

But Ndlanya also makes it clear that the Serbian is not doing it alone as it takes teamwork to succeed.

"Look my friend, iKhosi will always come back you see, remember I once told you that they can rise to any occasion," Ndlanya tells KickOff.com.

"It's just that I don't want to say it's only Nurkovic because remember, I said to you Chiefs needs a deadly striker, someone who will be reliable in scoring goals you see... you can rely on him.

"Once you have that kind of player you see like Nurkovic scoring goals, he gives the confidence to all in the team. Because the confidence once you are scoring goals like [Cristiano] Ronaldo has been scoring goals for Juventus, automatically the team will rise you see.

"So I think so far Nurkovic has contributed in three games in succession. He has brought in stability. He has contributed to this thing because they needed a person like him. He's a key player. I've always admired Nurkovic, his aggressiveness. He's a player that always wants to score goals all the time. You need such strikers."

With only 12 matches played so far Chiefs are 10 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Swallows FC, and Ndlanya believes it is too early for any team to be ruled out in the 2020/21 title race.

"Look, it's all about consistency my friend. Do you remember when we talked about consistency? Consistency is very important. Winning is good because it brings confidence. But once you lose you also lose confidence you see. In fact, it's good to see Chiefs winning now because it's scaring other teams you see.

"The league is open, it's still early. Can you imagine if they win 15 games? How many points will be there? They must just focus on winning and not think about the league. I wouldn't say they can win the league but the most important thing is to win their games."
