SAFA explain absence of Referee of the Season award

SAFA Head of Referees Abdul Ebrahim has explained the absence of the Referee of the Season award at the Premier Soccer League awards ceremony on Sunday.

Ebrahim confirmed that the ike last season, the officials will be recognised at a later stage.

"The thing is the league is not even completed yet, the play-offs are still happening," Ebrahim tells KickOff.

"Did you see the goal from Marumo Gallants? The player was in an off-side position am I correct?

"Now something like that would make a mark from an assistant referee, from an 8.5 or 8.6 to a 7.9.

"Can you see how it will affect nominations? Do you understand why we couldn't provide the PSL with the nominations until the last game of the season?

"Every match official after a game gets a rating, and that is part of the criteria that we use to get our Assistant Referee and Referee of the Year.

"And we look at their general behaviour on and off the field as well.

"We've got the nominations list, and we cannot release it until the end of the season.

"I mean Orlando Pirates is playing Supersport tonight, that game is still happening and the play-offs are still happening.

"So at the end of the season when the matches are done we will gladly do that."
