'Chiefs players must respect the jersey'

Amakhosi's supporters were left hurting after the club relinquished MTN8 honours with a 1-0 loss to Ajax Cape Town in the Final last weekend.

Chiefs will revive hostilities with Ajax in the League at Cape Town Stadium tonight, and Maake expects to see Komphela's charges give it their all in the Mother City.

"The problem with the current Chiefs team is that you close down Tshabalala and Lebese then you are done with Kaizer Chiefs. But it's not true that coach Komphela is the one that is costing the team, for that I blame the players," says Maake.

"The players must respect their jobs and our jersey, they must protect their careers and talent. Then everything will go back to normal."

Expectations are high on Komphela as his predecessor Stuart Baxter left Naturena after guiding the Soweto giants to a League and Cup double last season.

Maake adds: "The only thing Steve must do to console us is to win the Telkom Cup because he has already let go of our MTN8. If he fails to achieve that, then at the least he must make sure he wins the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates on the 31st of October.

"We can't lose to Pirates twice or else he must leave us in peace. We do love him, he is a Chiefs product, but he must never lose against Pirates. We won't tell him which players to field or leave out on the bench as long as he continues the club's winning culture."

The Glamour Boys are fifth on the log with nine points from five games - three points behind leaders Bidvest Wits.
