Royal Eagles coach Sazi Ngubane has warned Maritzburg United ahead of their KwaZulu-Natal derby in the promotion playoffs at Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.
Eagles kicked off their bid to win promotion with a 1-0 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC on Wednesday at Chatsworth Stadium.
Ngubane speaking after the game was impressed by the victory and believes it will help them ahead of the next game.
"I'm very happy, it was not easy but luckily we managed to get an important victory at home. These three points are important for us to start on a good note. In the playoffs it helps to begin with a win and finish with another one. I believe we are in a good position now," he said.
Their next match is against KZN neighbours Maritzburg, who survived automatic relegation on the last day of the Absa Premiership season.
As much as Ngubane feels the standard is different between the Premiership and NFD, he warns the Team of Choice that it won't be easy for to play against them.
"It won't be easy to play against Maritzburg United, they come from the PSL which is totally different to where we are competing," he said. "But they must not come with that mentality because we will surprise them. We will prepare well for them, come Sunday we will be ready."
Ngubane also emphasised the important of avoiding losses at home, as it will be much easier for them when they travel. Both KZN teams in these playoffs have an advantage as they will only play one out of four matches outside the province.
