SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams says he is happy that Itumeleng Khune has found his way back into the national team.

The Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has been recalled by South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome e Principe.

Khune, who has never disappointed in national team colours, last represented Bafana in 2018 due to lengthy recent injuries.

Williams, who has been keeping goals for the national team in Khune's absence, says they have been missing the Amakhosi star in the squad.

"It's wonderful to have him back, I mean we missed him for a very long time," Williams tells KickOff.com.

"I mean he's obviously one of the best keepers that this country has ever had, so you know to have him back is wonderful. I'm still young so I will continue learning from him.

"I mean I have only got a handful of caps and Itu is almost on a hundred so his experience is vital and obviously I would want to learn as much as possible from him and the goalkeeper coach, and all the keepers that are there.

"Myself and Itu have got a wonderful relationship you know, so ja I'm just glad he is back. I'm glad he's playing and all these injuries are behind him now.

"South Africa has always been blessed with good goalkeepers and you know there's so much that the coach can choose from, there's a lot of guys doing well in the league.

"The guys that missed out like [Ricardo] Goss and [Jackson] Mabokgwane you know, they shouldn't put their heads down, [Siyabonga] Mbatha as well for me has been doing very well. I'm glad that I'm part of the team."

Williams says he is very satisfied with the type of players that have been selected by coach Ntseki.

"I'm just glad that we've got a good a team. I mean it's a nice balanced team of experience. Obviously the core of the team that's been there since AFCON in the past two years is still there and that's the main thing," he adds.

"So ja obviously we've lost a lot of guys through injury but there's good replacements and it's a wonderful team."
