Ofori: I told Rushine he would be great

Maritzburg United goalkeeper Richard Ofori says he predicted his sought-after teammate Rushine De Reuck would become the best defender in the PSL.

De Reuck has been key for the Maritzburg defence this season after producing consistent performances, especially against the big clubs, making him one of the most respected defenders in the 2019/20 season.

The Ghanaian reveals he always believed in the ability of the 23-year-old, who learnt a lot during his time in Portugal earlier in his career.

“I don’t know, maybe he played with fear when he first came to the club," Ofori told the media during a virtual conference last week.

“But I knew he would be the best in South Africa and even for Bafana Bafana. He had played in Portugal and learnt a lot.

"Most of the players he was with there have also graduated to the big leagues. I always told him that he would be a great defender."

Ofori and De Reuck, who could dominate the next transfer window as they are amongst the most-wanted players in the league, will be looking to finish the current season on a high when football resumes to ensure they leave the Team of Choice in a better position should they move on.
