Downs raid for Wits stars analysed

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Raymond Seneo does not think it would be wise for some of Bidvest Wits' stars to move to Chloorkop.

Wits' status sale has seen players like Gift Motupa and Haashim Domingo linked with exits, with goalkeeper Ricardo Goss reportedly close to completing a move to Masandawana.

Sundowns have already missed out on Thulani Hlatshwayo and Deon Hotto after they both agreed to join Orlando Pirates, while a move for Motupa failed in January.

Seneo believes whoever joins the current league champions would be good additions but warns that they are not guaranteed to succeed.

"For me it depends how coach Pitso Mosimane will use them, some of those players are internationals," Seneo tells

"Sundowns always prepare for the CAF Champions League, so it's about beefing up the squad for a bigger challenge."

Seneo's worry is that while many Wits players will now be desperate to secure new jobs, the reality is that they need to be careful about their next career choice.

"If those players signed for Sundowns it will also be very tricky, because some of them are not young and they can't sign to be on the bench," Seneo explains.

"Some of those players are not that young. Will they be prepared to deal with that? It's a very tricky one but I believe they will be a good addition to the team."
