The 2018/19 league campaign is now reaching fever pitch with just seven rounds of fixtures remaining – though Mamelodi Sundowns and Black Leopards still have a game in hand.
The fight for the title remains wide open, with Orlando Pirates currently at the summit of the table, while Sundowns are level on points and holding just a one-point advantage over Cape Town City and two points over Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United.
After already ruling Amakhosi out of the running, Mphahlele has given an indication of where he believes the coveted domestic prize could be going come May 11.
“It’s very tight at the top. There’s a lot of stress and pressure at the moment, all the teams are feeling it,” said Mphahlele.
“You can see with Sundowns dropping points and Pirates against Celtic almost lost all three points, while there’s Cape Town City creeping there, and Wits with Gavin Hunt can’t be written off.
“So, it’s too early to say because the way the log is at the top, it’s very difficult to tell who’s going to win the league – it can go to Cape Town, Pretoria or Jo’burg.”
