The hosts bagged their first points of the season thanks to Clayton Daniels' successful 25th minute penalty following a handball in the box by Bheki Nzunga.
Matsatsantsa's Prince Nxumalo and Chippa's Chris Komane were dismissed by referee Victor Gomes for challenging each other with raised studs in the 65th minute.
Togo international Dove Wome made his debut for SuperSport, and he was busy in the opening stages of the game. He flashed a strike at goal in the 10th minute which was saved by Tshepo Motsoeneng. Two minutes later and Benett Chenene passed to Wome inside the danger area and he drove his effort straight at Motsoeneng.
In the 27th minute Chippa got their first real chance on goal when Andile Mbenyane tested Ronwen Williams, but the Bafana Bafana keeper made a good save.
Just after the half-hour mark, Thuso Phala sent his shot straight at Motsoeneng with just the keeper to beat as the home side went in search of a second goal.
SuperSport came out firing after the break. In the 55th minute, Cavin Johnson's side missed a very good opportunity when Nxumalo failed to take advantage of a poor clearance by Motsoeneng.
A couple of minutes later and Phala put an effort wide of goal after good work by Nxumalo.
The match then took an unexpected turn with 25 minutes to go when Nxumalo and Komane were given their marching orders.
Chippa nearly snatched an 87th minute equaliser but Siyabonga Zulu's free-kick was denied by the post.
