Dolly, Shalulile gain traction in Golden Boot race

The race for the 2021/22 PSL Golden Boot award is well and truly on after the likes of Keagan Dolly and Peter Shaulile bolstered their tallies for the season over the weekend.

Having won the award following the 2019/20 season, and narrowly missed out to Bradley Grobler last time around, Peter Shalulile was one of the favourites to be crowned top goalscorer heading into the current campaign.

The Mamelodi Sundowns hitman is living up to expectations thus far and currently tops the standings with eight goals in nine appearances, including a double over Marumo Gallants on Sunday afternoon.

Shalulile leads the pack ahead of Royal AM and Bafana Bafana star Victor Letsoalo who blanked for the third consecutive match over the weekend after scoring six times in the opening five matches of the season.

Further behind, Kaizer Chiefs' Keagan Dolly netted a brace in Friday's Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates and now shares third spot with SuperSport United's Thamsanqa Gabuza and Sekhukhune United's Chibuike Ohizu.

The trio has netted five times each in the DStv Premiership this season, one more than Stellenbosch's Ashley Du Preez, while six other players have netted three goals apiece in the league so far.
