Late Citizens goal downs Birds

The hosts didn’t waste time in settling and created a great chance as early as the fourth minute when defender Joseph Musonda delivered a telling cross in search of Esau Kanyenda, but his header went over the bar with goalkeeper Greg Etafia beaten.
Papic started with the Malawian instead of Puleng Tlolane and his move paid dividends as Kanyenda headed Tshepo Molala’s cross from the right into Etafia’s net only 11 minutes into the game.
Three minutes later the Dube Birds probed for an equaliser but Rise and Shine were stable at the back as Felix Obada picked out Lerato Chabangu who took a shot, but Modiri Marumo parried his effort to safety.
The first stanza did not produce many clear-cut chances as the game was dominated by fouls, however, Cole Alexander took a beautiful shot in the 29th minute that went wide to the right, not troubling Etafia’s goals.
The Citizens went to the tunnel enjoying the lead but it was Madida’s men who came back with a bang, probing for an equaliser when Lefa Tsutsulupa’s effort was blocked by defender Vusi Mthimkhulu.
In the 55th minute Vuyisile Wana was flagged offside to the amazement of the supporters as he looked onside, nevertheless, four minutes later Molala’s attempt from outside the box sailed wide to the right of Etafia’s goal against the run of play.
The hard work of the Dube Birds was finally rewarded in the 70th minute when Obada managed to beat an offside trap with his pace – he beat Marumo and slotted the ball into an empty net to equalise.
With less than 10 minutes to go, substitute Luyolo Nomandela’s well-taken shot missed Marumo’s far post by inches.
However, with one minute to go, Rendani Ndou pounced on a loose ball in the box as Etafia failed to deal with Maluleke’s free-kick to claim maximum points for the home side.
