Pirates legend roped in at City

Premiership

KickOff.com has been made aware that Polokwane City has roped in a former Orlando Pirates star as they look towards a second push at returning to the DStv Premiership.

City have appointed legendary goalkeeper Innocent Mayoyo, who was earlier linked with a move to Sekhukhune United as goalkeeper coach, as the first team head coach.

'Ayobayo' has replaced Jonny Ferreira, who left Rise and Shine to join Venda Football Academy, which has recently completed the purchase of Cape Umoya United's GladAfrica Championship status.

According to a source close to the Limpopo-based outfit, former Baroka FC midfielder Dumsani Ngwenya has also joined the club on trial.

"Mayoyo is the new coach for Polokwane City. He was introduced to the players on Monday and officially began his duties on Tuesday," says the source.

"There are few other trialists that the team is still trying to assess before the start of the season."

As earlier reported by this website, the club have parted ways with former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits star Elias Pelembe, who has since returned home in Mozambique.
