SuperSport enjoyed the better of the chances in the early minutes. Enocent Mkhabela had a speculative effort in the second minute, while on the quarter-hour mark Jeremy Brockie was denied by Stars goalkeeper Kabelo Dambe.
Dambe made another stop in the 25th minute when he kept out an effort from Clayton Daniels following a dangerous freekick from Daine Klate, as United looked to make the most of their dominance.
However, Dikwena came back strongly after the 30-minute mark and the visitors needed goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to make a couple of notable saves, dealing with efforts from Ndumiso Mabena and Mduduzi Nyanda to see the half end goalless.
Both teams made early changes in the second half, with United sending on Morne Nel and Michael Morton to try and beef up their midfield, while Stars introduced Eleazar Rodgers up front to give them the option of playing more directly.
However, chances were hard to come by in the second stanza. Neither goalkeeper was called into any significant action as the teams struggled to find an attacking rhythm.
Stars remain in 12th place on the log with 29 points from 25 matches, while United leapfrog Ajax Cape Town into sixth place with 34 points from 25 matches.
SuperSport will next be in action when they host relegation-threatened Moroka Swallows on Saturday night, while Stars will travel to Mamelodi Sundowns next Wednesday for their next league match.
