Siphelele Mthembu scored the only goal of the game on the hour-mark as Dikwena registered their 13th win of the season, leaving them in third place, eight points clear of Bidvest Wits in fourth place.
It was a rather dull first half with very few chances on goal. The first real attempt came in the 22nd minute and went the way of Free State Stars when Dove Wome let rip from 25-yards out, but Siyabonga Mpontshane was up to the challenge and made a fine save.
Dikwena’s only attempt of the half came in the 37th minute when Mthembu made his way into the box, but he fired his shot straight at the Free State keeper from close range when a yard either side of him would have resulted in a goal.
The second half saw the home side playing the more attacking football with a couple decent shots on goal, but Mpontshane made some fine saves to keep his side in the game.
First, a powerful shot from Thapelo Mkhatshwa in the 51st minute saw Mpontshane at his best, and then two minutes later the keeper denied Wome with another acrobatic save.
The goal did eventually come, but against the run of play as Mthembu headed home an Elias Ngwepe cross.
Free State tried to fight their way back into the game but were unable to create any decent scoring chances as Dikwena held on for the win.
